Guidance & Counselling
The philosophy of the guidance programme in BCS is student-centered and aims to encourage all students to take personal responsibility for their career research.Guidance covers the two roles of Career Guidance which is delivered through classwork and individual interviews, and Counselling which is available to all students through referrals by appropriate sources.
Guidance covers topics such as Aptitude testing, Subject Choice, Examination Techniques, Study Skills, Career Planning, CV and Interview preparation, completing applications to College and others, visits to college Open Days, organizing visiting speakers, preparing for independent living after school graduation.
All senior classes have weekly guidance classes and individual Guidance interviews with the GC. The GC has relevant input to all Junior cycle groups at significant points in their career development such as the DATS assesment test, Subject choice and at other times as needed.
Parental involvement is actively encouraged and GC is available to talk with parents at times arranged by mutual agreement. The GC holds an Information night for 6th year parents in November/December and for parents of 5th year students in April. The careers office has a dedicated e-mail address (firstname.lastname@example.org) for students and parents to use as a point of contact with the GC.
